How It All Began

In my late twenties, a pivotal breakup prompted a move out of Detroit and across the country. After only a few months in Salt Lake City, I accepted a teaching position in Seoul, South Korea, telling myself (and everyone else), “If they send a plane ticket, I’ll go.” To my surprise, they did. So, I packed all I could in two large suitcases; 140 pounds of belongings would end up lasting me the next four years.

During my first year in Korea, I saved nearly $10,000 USD by teaching illegal private lessons for students and when I came home for the holidays, I booked one way flights into Lisbon, Portugal and out of Athens, Greece on a dare from my brother. I’d be spending the next two months weaving in and out of European cities I’d only dreamt of. The rest is history.
