Ti Kwen Glo Cho: Dominica Island’s Volcanic Hot Springs
Escape into the lush volcanic heart of Dominica Island, where naturally heated pools, tropical greenery and a little unexpected adventure make Ti Kwen Glo Cho much more than a relaxing soak.
Published | October 2026
Why You’ll Fall for Dominica Island
Dominica Island is a different kind of Caribbean escape — one shaped as much by its mountains and rainforest as by the sea.
Unlike the beach-focused destinations that often come to mind when imagining the Caribbean, Dominica is rugged, mountainous and wonderfully green. Dense rainforest covers much of the interior, volcanic peaks rise above small communities and rivers carve their way through valleys toward a coastline that feels remarkably untouched.
There's an extraordinary variety of landscapes packed into this small island. Waterfalls tumble through tropical forests, geothermal activity shapes the land beneath your feet and winding mountain roads connect places that can feel worlds apart.
But Dominica is more than its natural beauty.
There's a distinctly unhurried rhythm to life here. Small villages, roadside conversations, local food and everyday encounters offer a glimpse of an island that hasn't been shaped entirely around tourism. Exploring often requires a little patience, curiosity and a willingness to let the day unfold differently than planned.
What makes Dominica special is the balance between adventure and simplicity. It offers extraordinary landscapes without demanding that every moment become an activity and a sense of connection that comes from engaging with the place rather than simply passing through it.
If you're drawn to destinations with character, natural beauty and a little unpredictability, Dominica has a way of staying with you long after you've left.

My Bibimbap Moment
This experience added: Serendipity.
Ti Kwen Glo Cho added the ingredient of serendipity to my Bibimbap Life. What I expected to be a simple afternoon soaking in hot springs became something much more memorable. Between the winding journey to get there, the wonderfully rustic pools, the cold shower and bathtub and the lush rainforest surrounding it all, I found myself completely charmed by a place that wasn't trying to be anything other than what it was. And just when I thought the afternoon couldn't get better, an unexpected friendship turned a relaxing visit into an evening of good food, conversation and another little adventure.
My Two-Week Caribbean Island-Hopping Itinerary
This Caribbean adventure began as a birthday trip, with two weeks to explore three very different islands. Each offered something distinct, from beaches and coastal towns to rainforest, waterfalls and volcanic landscapes.
Sint Maarten/Saint Martin was the starting point, where Dutch and French influences meet on one small island. Days were spent exploring both sides, enjoying the beaches, wandering through towns and discovering the differences in culture, food and atmosphere.
From there, the journey continued to Dominica, where the landscape changed dramatically. Rainforest-covered mountains replaced the beach-focused scenery and the days filled with waterfall hikes, winding roads, river adventures and naturally heated pools. Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs became one of those memorable stops — a chance to slow down and experience the volcanic landscape in a completely different way.
The final stop was Antigua, where beautiful beaches, coastal adventures and encounters with the island's wildlife brought the trip to a close.
My route: Sint Maarten/Saint Martin → Dominica → Antigua
Three islands, three very different experiences — and a reminder that even within the Caribbean, the landscape and rhythm of travel can change dramatically from one destination to the next.

Visiting Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs — What to Expect
Visiting Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs is a chance to experience a different side of Dominica Island's volcanic landscape. Tucked into the lush hills of Wotten Waven, this small, family-run retreat offers naturally heated pools surrounded by tropical vegetation, with cooler water nearby when you're ready for a break from the heat.
But the experience isn't quite as straightforward as arriving at a conventional spa. Winding mountain roads, uncertain directions and a setting that feels more like someone's tropical garden than a polished resort are all part of its character.
Ti Kwen Glo Cho is best enjoyed without a schedule. Move between pools, experiment with the different temperatures and give yourself time to appreciate the surroundings. After days spent hiking through rainforest and chasing waterfalls, it's a welcome change of pace.
And as I discovered, even an afternoon dedicated to relaxation can come with a few unexpected adventures.
Here's what to expect from a visit to Ti Kwen Glo Cho, what made the experience memorable and a few things worth knowing before you go.
Finding Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs
Getting to Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs turned out to be an adventure of its own.
The journey takes you into the green hills of Wotten Waven, a small village in the volcanic interior of Dominica Island. Roads twist through the mountains, climbing past thick vegetation and occasional openings toward the valleys below. It's beautiful country but not necessarily the easiest place to navigate.
Google Maps wasn't particularly helpful, and somewhere along the way, the directions became more of a suggestion than an actual route.
After stopping to ask for help, I ended up giving a local man a lift as he finished his workday. His directions were considerably more useful than my phone's and the conversation made the detour feel less like getting lost and more like another small encounter with everyday life on the island.
Eventually, the road led to Ti Kwen Glo Cho, tucked into the hillside among tropical plants and trees.
💡 My Tip | Don't rely entirely on Google Maps to find the hot springs. Download an offline map, allow extra driving time and don't hesitate to ask locals for directions. The roads can be steep and narrow, particularly as you approach Wotten Waven.
Arriving at Ti Kwen Glo Cho
Ti Kwen Glo Cho is a small, family-run hot spring retreat, with naturally heated bathing pools scattered throughout a lush, informal garden setting.
There's nothing particularly elaborate about the facilities and that's part of the appeal. Stone paths wind between the pools, tropical plants spill over their edges and the surrounding greenery makes the property feel closely connected to the landscape.
The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, with simple places to change, rinse off and move between the different bathing areas.
It's the kind of setting that encourages you to wander a little before settling in.
A Little Mini Zoo Along the Way
Before heading into the hot springs, I spent some time exploring the property's small collection of animals.
It was an unexpected addition to the visit. Birds occupied their enclosures while chickens and other farm animals added a slightly eccentric, backyard quality to the grounds.
The mini zoo isn't something I'd make a special journey to see but it was an interesting little detour before the main attraction. It also reinforced how informal and personal the property feels compared with a conventional spa.
Between the animals, tropical flowers, moss-covered rocks and dense greenery, there was plenty to notice while wandering through the gardens.
Soaking in Dominica's Volcanic Hot Springs
The real reason to visit, of course, is the water.
Ti Kwen Glo Cho has several bathing pools with different temperatures, allowing visitors to move between hotter and cooler water rather than settling into one pool for the entire afternoon.
My first stop was one of the hottest pools, its water tinted a rusty red by the minerals and sediment. Steam rose from the surface and the heat was intense enough to make me hesitate before easing in.
Once settled, though, it was exactly what I needed after days spent exploring the rainforest, hiking trails and waterfalls of Dominica Island.
The pools vary in size and character, with stone edges, surrounding plants and little pockets of shade. Some feel more open, while others are tucked into the greenery.
Rather than rushing between them, I spent the afternoon trying different temperatures and enjoying the contrast between the hot water and the surrounding tropical landscape.
Hot Springs, Cold Showers & a Rusty Bathtub
One of my favorite little discoveries was a cold outdoor shower positioned near an old, rust-colored bathtub filled with warm water.
It wasn't glamorous but it was wonderfully memorable.
Standing beneath the cold water after soaking in the hot springs was an immediate shock to the system. Slipping back into the warm bathtub afterward felt even better.
I went back and forth between the shower, bathtub and other pools, enjoying the different temperatures and the simple pleasure of having nowhere else I needed to be.
The surroundings made the experience even better. Fallen leaves in shades of orange and brown stood out against the tropical greenery, while flowers, stones and weathered surfaces gave the gardens a slightly wild, lived-in character.
Nothing felt overly designed or polished. The beauty came from the combination of natural materials, water, vegetation and the occasional unexpected object.
There was also a mud pool, which I considered briefly before deciding against it. By that point, I was warm, clean and completely content. Getting covered in mud seemed like an unnecessary interruption.
💡 My Tip | Take your time moving between the pools but be careful entering and exiting them. Some steps and surfaces can be slippery and the hottest water may be uncomfortable for extended soaking. Bring water, a towel and footwear with good grip.
An Unexpected Friendship at the Hot Springs
By the time I was ready to leave, the afternoon had already been a success. The winding drive, little animal encounters, hot pools and cold-water experiments had made Ti Kwen Glo Cho much more interesting than a conventional spa visit.
But the most memorable part was still to come.
During my visit, I met Bert, the only other person enjoying the springs that afternoon.
Originally from Germany, Bert now lives in Antigua, where he runs a restaurant called Papa Zouk. He'd been visiting Dominica for more than forty years and had plenty of stories to share.
Our conversation wandered through his work as a filmmaker and painter, his connections to the island and the changes he'd witnessed over decades of returning.
It's one of the things I love about traveling without an overly rigid schedule. Sometimes a conversation begins simply because two people happen to be in the same place at the same time.
And sometimes that conversation turns into dinner.
Dinner at River Rocks Bar & Grill
Bert invited me to join him at River Rocks Bar & Grill, a casual riverside restaurant surrounded by the island's mountainous landscape.
The setting was lovely, with an open-air dining area overlooking a rocky stream and plenty of greenery beyond.
As someone familiar with the restaurant, Bert seemed perfectly fine letting the evening unfold without much fuss. We settled in with drinks — a refreshing combination of gin, guava juice and soda — and continued our conversation.
Dinner arrived in the form of an enormous plate of tuna steak covered in a rich red sauce, accompanied by rice, coleslaw, sweet potatoes, plantains and other local provisions.
It was a generous meal, almost too much to finish. I enjoyed the combination of sides, although I'm still not entirely convinced that a heavy sauce is the best treatment for a good piece of fish.
The food was memorable but the conversation was what made the evening.
Bert generously insisted on paying for dinner and before we parted ways, he had one final recommendation: Titou Gorge.
“Go tomorrow,” he told me.
It turned out to be excellent advice.
A Connection That Continued to Antigua
One of the unexpected pleasures of island-hopping is discovering how connected the Caribbean can feel.
I'd arrived at Ti Kwen Glo Cho looking for a relaxing afternoon in Dominica's volcanic landscape and left with a new friend, a memorable dinner and a recommendation that helped shape the rest of my trip.
And because Antigua was the final stop on my Caribbean itinerary, meeting someone who called the island home created a connection between two otherwise very different destinations.
Bert's restaurant, Papa Zouk, became another place with a personal story attached to it — one I wouldn't have known about if our paths hadn't crossed at the hot springs.
It's a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful part of a travel experience has very little to do with the attraction you originally came to see.
✨ Don’t Miss | If you're continuing to Antigua, keep Papa Zouk in mind. It's a lovely connection to this story and another way to discover the Caribbean through its people, food and unexpected encounters.
My Bibimbap Moment
Sometimes the most memorable experiences are the ones that surprise you. Ti Kwen Glo Cho wasn't polished or luxurious, but there was something wonderful about soaking in warm volcanic water surrounded by flowers, fallen leaves, mossy rocks and tropical greenery. Moving between different temperatures became its own little ritual, while the surrounding rainforest made it easy to forget about everything beyond the gardens. It was an afternoon of simple pleasures, unexpected discoveries and a little magic in the imperfections. Here's the ingredient this experience added to my Bibimbap Life.
Today’s Bibimbap Recipe
🥢 Flavor: Whimsical
🌿 Ingredient: Serendipity
❤️ Best Memory: Moving between the hot springs, cold shower and rusty bathtub, completely surrounded by tropical greenery.
🎒 Take With You: A little imperfection can be part of the magic. Sometimes the most memorable places are the ones that let nature do the decorating.
Looking back, what stays with me most is how completely immersed in nature I felt. The warm water, cool shower, weathered bathtub, colorful leaves and flowers growing around the pools made the whole experience feel a little magical. Nothing was especially fancy, and that was exactly what made it so charming. Meeting Bert and sharing dinner afterward was an unexpected bonus, but even without that lovely ending, Ti Kwen Glo Cho would have been one of my favorite afternoons in Dominica. It reminded me that a place doesn't need to be perfect to feel extraordinary.
Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs Travel Essentials
A visit to Ti Kwen Glo Cho is relatively simple to plan, but a little preparation makes the experience much more enjoyable. Between navigating the winding roads into Wotten Waven, knowing what to bring and allowing enough time to explore the different pools, there are a few things worth considering before you go. These essentials will help you make the most of your visit while leaving plenty of room to slow down, wander through the gardens and enjoy the wonderfully unpolished charm of Dominica's volcanic hot springs.
When to Go
Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs can be enjoyed year-round, making it a lovely stop regardless of when you're visiting Dominica. Unlike waterfall hikes and other outdoor adventures, a little rain doesn't necessarily spoil the experience. In fact, soaking in naturally heated water surrounded by misty tropical greenery can be part of the appeal.
Dry Season | December to April: Generally the most reliable period for exploring Dominica, with less rainfall and more favorable driving conditions on the winding mountain roads.
Rainy Season | June to November: Expect more frequent showers and humid conditions. The hot springs can still be enjoyable but heavy rainfall may affect road access, so check local conditions before setting out.
Time of Day | Morning or Afternoon: Allow a couple of hours to explore the grounds and enjoy the different pools without rushing. Daylight also makes navigating the mountain roads easier.
💡 My Tip | Don't wait for perfectly sunny weather. A little tropical rain can make the hot springs feel even more atmospheric. Just be mindful of heavy storms and changing road conditions.
What to Bring
Ti Kwen Glo Cho is a relaxed, rustic hot springs experience, so you won't need much beyond your swimming essentials. The grounds are outdoors, the paths can be uneven and you'll likely spend most of your visit moving between pools, showers and the surrounding gardens.
Swimsuit + Towel | The Essentials: Bring a comfortable swimsuit and your own towel. A change of dry clothes is also useful for the drive afterward.
Water Shoes | For Slippery Surfaces: Sandals or water shoes with good grip make moving between pools easier, especially around wet stone steps and uneven pathways.
Water Bottle | Stay Hydrated: Moving between hot pools can leave you feeling surprisingly thirsty. Bring drinking water and take breaks between longer soaks.
Bug Repellent | For Tropical Gardens: The lush vegetation is part of the charm but insects come with the territory. Apply repellent when you're spending time outside the pools.
Waterproof Bag | Protect Your Belongings: A small waterproof pouch or dry bag is helpful for keeping your phone, camera and other essentials away from splashes and sudden rain.
💡 My Tip | Wear something comfortable and easy to change out of and don't bring more than you need. This is a place to wander between pools, enjoy the gardens and embrace a little rustic charm — not worry about keeping everything perfectly dry and clean.
How to Get There
Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs is located in Wotten Waven, a small village in Dominica's volcanic Roseau Valley, approximately 20–30 minutes inland from the capital. The journey takes you into the island's lush mountainous interior, along narrow, winding roads that can be a little tricky to navigate.
Rental Car | Most Flexible: Driving gives you the freedom to visit the hot springs at your own pace and combine your visit with other attractions in the Roseau Valley. The roads can be steep and uneven but I managed in a smaller rental car without a 4x4.
Taxi or Local Driver | Easiest Option: If you're not comfortable driving on mountainous roads, arrange a taxi or local driver from Roseau. Confirm the return journey in advance, particularly if you plan to spend several hours soaking.
Guided Tour | Combine Nearby Experiences: Some island tours include geothermal attractions around Wotten Waven alongside waterfalls and other Roseau Valley highlights. Check the itinerary carefully if Ti Kwen Glo Cho is the specific hot spring you want to visit.
💡 My Tip | Google Maps wasn't particularly reliable when I visited and I ended up asking locals for directions. Download an offline map, allow extra time and don't assume the quickest-looking route will be the easiest. Getting there became part of my adventure.
Where to Stay
If Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs is on your itinerary, Roseau and the surrounding Roseau Valley make the most practical bases. Staying nearby gives you easy access to Wotten Waven, along with other natural attractions such as Trafalgar Falls, Middleham Falls and the rainforest trails of Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
Roseau | Best for Convenience: The capital offers restaurants, shops and everyday essentials, with the hot springs approximately 20–30 minutes away by car.
Roseau Valley | Best for Nature: Staying around Trafalgar, Wotten Waven or the surrounding hills puts you closer to the hot springs and the lush interior landscapes that make this part of Dominica so memorable.
For my own trip, I loved staying somewhere surrounded by greenery. It made the experience of exploring the island feel continuous, even after returning from a day out.
Where I Stayed
For a budget-friendly nature escape — Papaya Creek (Coconut Garden)
This is where I stayed during my time in Dominica. Tucked into a peaceful green setting with a stream running through the property, it offered the relaxed, nature-focused atmosphere I was looking for.
Where I'd Stay
For another rainforest escape — Cocoa Cottage
Surrounded by tropical gardens in the Roseau Valley, Cocoa Cottage would be one of my first choices for exploring Ti Kwen Glo Cho and the surrounding waterfalls and hiking trails. Its small scale and natural setting feel particularly well suited to this part of the island.
For riverside comfort — Sabifi River Resort
For a little more comfort without losing that connection to nature, Sabifi River Resort offers a river and garden setting with an intimate atmosphere. A lovely option for relaxing after days spent exploring.
For a design-minded splurge — Coulibri Ridge
Although not a convenient base specifically for Ti Kwen Glo Cho, Coulibri Ridge is worth considering if you're planning a longer island stay. Its contemporary architecture, sustainability-focused design and dramatic coastal setting make it a very different kind of Dominica experience.
Additional Options
Looking for somewhere else to stay?
Browse accommodation around Roseau and the Roseau Valley for the easiest access to Ti Kwen Glo Cho or explore other parts of the island if you're planning a longer itinerary.
How to Get Around
Exploring the Roseau Valley is easiest with your own transportation, especially if you're planning to visit Ti Kwen Glo Cho alongside nearby waterfalls, rainforest trails and other geothermal attractions. Distances may look short on a map but winding mountain roads mean getting between stops can take longer than expected.
Rental Car | Most Flexible: Having a car lets you explore the valley at your own pace and make spontaneous stops along the way. My smaller rental car handled the journey, although some steep and uneven stretches required extra care. Remember that driving is on the left in Dominica.
Local Driver or Taxi | Most Convenient: A local driver is a good option if you'd rather not navigate the mountain roads yourself. You can arrange a visit to the hot springs along with other nearby attractions without worrying about directions or parking.
Minibus | Budget-Friendly but Limited: Local minibuses serve communities throughout the Roseau Valley but they aren't necessarily convenient for reaching individual attractions. Confirm routes and return options before relying on public transportation.
💡 My Tip | If you're driving, consider exploring several Roseau Valley attractions on the same day rather than making repeated trips into the mountains. Just leave plenty of time to enjoy the hot springs without rushing to your next stop.
How Long to Stay
Allow around two hours to enjoy Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs without feeling rushed. Between exploring the gardens, checking out the animals and moving between the different pools, there's more to experience than a quick soak. And if you're anything like me, you may find yourself staying longer than expected.
1 Hour | A Quick Visit: Enough for a short soak and a look around the grounds, although you'll miss some of the pleasure of taking your time.
2–3 Hours | The Sweet Spot: Plenty of time to explore the gardens, enjoy the different water temperatures, try the cold shower and bathtub and relax between dips.
Half a Day | A Slower Afternoon: Ideal if you'd rather settle in without watching the clock, especially after a morning spent hiking or exploring nearby waterfalls.
💡 My Tip | Don't pack your itinerary too tightly. Ti Kwen Glo Cho is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace and you never know when an unexpected conversation might turn a relaxing afternoon into something even more memorable.
🧭 Planning Your Island Stay | While two to three hours is ideal for Ti Kwen Glo Cho, I'd recommend at least four to five days on Dominica Island to explore its waterfalls, rainforest trails, coastal communities and other natural wonders without rushing. A full week is even better if you want to venture farther and leave room for spontaneous discoveries.
Tours & Day Trips
You don't need a guided tour to enjoy Ti Kwen Glo Cho Hot Springs but the volcanic Roseau Valley on Dominica Island offers plenty of other experiences worth exploring. If you'd rather leave the mountain driving to someone else, some guided island tours combine hot springs with waterfalls, scenic viewpoints and other natural attractions.
Just keep in mind that not all hot springs tours visit Ti Kwen Glo Cho specifically. Dominica has several geothermal bathing spots, so check the itinerary before booking.
Wotten Waven Hot Springs | More Geothermal Experiences: Ti Kwen Glo Cho is one of several hot springs retreats in the area. If you're particularly interested in Dominica's volcanic landscape, consider exploring another bathing spot for a different atmosphere and experience.
Trafalgar Falls | Waterfalls & Rainforest: One of the most convenient nearby attractions to combine with a hot springs visit. The twin waterfalls are reached by a relatively short walk through lush tropical surroundings.
Titou Gorge | A Different Kind of Water Adventure: Trade steaming pools for a swim through a narrow, water-filled volcanic gorge. It's a memorable contrast to the slower pace of the hot springs and one of my favorite experiences on the island.
Roseau Valley Tours | Waterfalls & Hot Springs: Some guided excursions combine geothermal bathing with waterfall visits and scenic stops around the valley. These are worth considering if you're traveling without a rental car or prefer a more organized day.
💡 My Tip | I visited Ti Kwen Glo Cho independently and would recommend doing the same if you have a rental car. For guided experiences, look for combination tours that include waterfalls and hot springs but always confirm which geothermal site is included.
Want to Explore More of Dominica?
If you're interested in experiencing more of the island's waterfalls, volcanic landscapes and rainforest, a guided day trip can be a convenient way to explore without navigating the mountain roads yourself.
Good to Know
Admission | Bring Cash: Ti Kwen Glo Cho charges an entrance fee, so bring some Eastern Caribbean dollars (XCD) or small US dollar bills. Confirm the current admission price before visiting, as rates may change.
Facilities | Simple & Rustic: Expect basic changing and shower facilities rather than a polished spa environment. The informal setting is part of the charm but don't arrive expecting high end amenities.
Pool Temperatures | Hot to Very Hot: The pools vary considerably in temperature and some are surprisingly hot. Test the water before entering, ease in slowly and take breaks to cool down.
Mud Bath | An Optional Extra: There's also a mud bathing area if you'd like to try something different. I skipped it because I was already perfectly content moving between the hot pools and cold shower.
Footing | Watch Your Step: Wet stone surfaces, uneven pathways and steep pool steps can be slippery. Move carefully, particularly when entering or leaving the water.
Other Hot Springs | Explore Wotten Waven: Ti Kwen Glo Cho isn't the only geothermal bathing experience in the village. Wotten Waven has several hot springs establishments, each with its own setting and atmosphere.
💡 My Tip | Come with an open mind and don't expect a conventional spa. The slightly rough-around-the-edges character, tropical gardens and unusual bathing areas are exactly what made Ti Kwen Glo Cho so memorable for me.
Discover Ti Kwen Glo Cho, where Dominica Island’s volcanic landscape meets lush tropical gardens, naturally heated pools and an unexpectedly memorable escape.
